This updated “digital passport” now integrates with popular platforms including Reddit, Telegram, Mercado Libre, and more, aiming to streamline user logins and enhance security across various applications.

The announcement of World ID 2.0 by Worldcoin highlights its integration with several online platforms such as Shopify, Reddit, and Telegram.
This integration allows users to authenticate their identities seamlessly across these services, which is for activities like moderating on Reddit or securing one-time discounts on Shopify without the risk of fraud.
Tiago Sada, Product Head at Tools for Humanity, the company behind Worldcoin, emphasized that these integrations are designed to differentiate real users from bots.
For instance, on Reddit, moderators can grant special permissions to users verified through World ID, ensuring that interactions are genuine and not spam-driven.
The core of World ID 2.0 lies in its ability to verify identities without disclosing personal details. Developed by the team behind ChatGPT, Worldcoin introduces a unique identification system that utilizes retina scanning.
Despite the innovative technology, the use of biometric data, specifically eye scans, has sparked international debate. Privacy advocates have raised concerns about the potential risks of handing over biometric data to a Silicon Valley startup.
However, Tools for Humanity has addressed these concerns by clarifying that Worldcoin does not store ocular scans but uses them solely for initial user authentication.
Moreover, World ID serves as a more privacy-preserving alternative to traditional authentication systems. It allows users to prove their humanity to apps or services without revealing their identity. This feature positions World ID as a forward-thinking solution in digital identity verification.
Adding to its capabilities, Worldcoin has introduced three new “verification levels” catering to different user preferences for data sharing. These range from a basic level, requiring no iris scan and only profile creation, to a high level that includes facial recognition alongside the iris scan for added security.
In terms of expansion, Worldcoin is not limiting its reach to existing markets. The company has announced plans to extend its services to Mexico and Singapore, part of a broader ambition to expand across Latin America and Asia.
Since its launch in 2021 by Altman, Worldcoin has seen significant uptake, with nearly five million people, including substantial percentages of populations in Chile, Argentina, and Portugal, using its orbs to scan their retinas in exchange for global IDs.
