  • Semler Scientific now holds over 1,000 BTC, furthering its investment strategy using cash reserves and capital from stock issuance.
  • Chairman Eric Semler anticipates enhanced institutional investor participation, potentially boosting both Bitcoin’s price and shareholder value.

Semler Scientific, a prominent player in the medical device industry listed on the US NASDAQ, has significantly increased its Bitcoin holdings, purchasing an additional 83 Bitcoins. This purchase, amounting to approximately 5.2 million USD, brings the company’s total Bitcoin assets to 1,012 BTC, with a cumulative investment nearing 68 million USD.

This strategic move was financed through a combination of operational cash reserves and funds raised through a stock issuance program. Since its initial foray into the cryptocurrency space in May with a 40 million USD investment, Semler has steadily augmented its holdings, reflecting a firm commitment to integrating Bitcoin into its treasury practices.

Institutional Engagement in Cryptocurrency

Chairman Eric Semler commented on the transaction, emphasizing the growing interest from institutional investors. He stated,

“We believe that the increased involvement of institutional investors will create value not only for the Bitcoin price but also for our shareholders.”

This remark echoes a broader market sentiment where traditional financial entities are increasingly participating in the cryptocurrency market, signaling a potential uplift in both market stability and investor confidence.

A report from NYDIG, a major US-based cryptocurrency investment firm, on August 23 highlighted a notable influx of institutional funds into Bitcoin. According to the report, investment advisory firms poured approximately 1.1 billion USD into Bitcoin Spot ETFs in the second quarter alone. This substantial investment underscores the growing credibility and appeal of Bitcoin as an investment class among traditional financial institutions.

Semler’s core product, the QuantaFlo blood flow measurement system, is used for diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. The company is currently seeking a new 510(k) approval from the FDA to expand the indications for this product, further solidifying its position in the medical technology market.
