Ubisoft has officially announced Might & Magic Fates, a new trading card game (TCG) built on Immutable’s zkEVM blockchain. The title represents one of the most ambitious web3 projects from a traditional AAA game developer and highlights the ongoing convergence of legacy gaming brands with decentralized infrastructure.
This development has seen IMX experience a noble surge. At the time of writing, IMX is swapping hands with $0.6000 after a 5.85% surge in the past 24 hours.
Unveiled on April 23 in a joint announcement with Immutable, Might & Magic Fates brings Ubisoft’s iconic 40-year-old franchise into the web3 arena. The game is designed as a free-to-play, skill-based mobile TCG that features digital ownership, on-chain gameplay, and a competitive PvP environment.
Built with the support of veteran Ubisoft developers and powered by Immutable’s Ethereum Layer-2 zkEVM, Fates aims to redefine blockchain gaming for both crypto-native and mainstream audiences.
A Classic Reborn on the Blockchain
The Might & Magic franchise, first launched in 1986, has spanned more than 30 titles and captured the imaginations of millions. Fates reimagines this rich universe through a web3 lens, offering players hundreds of collectible cards, deep lore integration, and unique gameplay mechanics.
Crucially, the game avoids controversial pay-to-win systems. Ubisoft emphasizes that success in Fates will depend solely on player strategy and skill. Blockchain functionality enhances the experience by enabling true digital ownership—players will be able to buy, sell, and trade their cards freely on secondary markets.
Immutable Partnership Two Years in the Making
While Ubisoft and Immutable first announced their collaboration back in 2023, details had been scarce until now. According to Immutable, the development of Fates involved a multimillion-dollar investment and marks a significant milestone in its vision of onboarding traditional gamers into the decentralized ecosystem.
“This is a defining moment for web3 gaming,” said Robbie Ferguson, co-founder of Immutable. “We’re proud to bring one of the world’s most iconic franchises on-chain in a way that’s meaningful, competitive, and player-first.”
Fates will join a growing roster of blockchain titles on Immutable, including Gods Unchained, Guild of Guardians, and Illuvium.
Ubisoft Doubles Down on Web3
Ubisoft has been a notable pioneer in the blockchain space, first experimenting with NFTs through its Quartz platform in 2021. While those early efforts were met with mixed reactions, the studio has remained committed to exploring decentralized technology and now appears to be taking a more mature, product-focused approach with Might & Magic Fates.
Set for release in 2025, Fates could be the tipping point that helps bring mainstream audiences into web3 gaming. Its blend of established IP, strategic gameplay, and blockchain utility positions it as a potential trailblazer in the next wave of digital gaming.
