The decision followed a brief public appearance in which Trump reiterated that his sole objective is ending the war, stressing that he has no fixed deadline beyond achieving peace.
The closed-door format signals a more serious phase of negotiations, as both sides attempt to resolve remaining obstacles in a conflict that has stretched on for nearly four years.

According to officials familiar with the talks, discussions are centered on a 20-point draft peace proposal designed to bring an end to the war. Zelensky recently stated that roughly 90% of the framework has already been agreed upon, suggesting progress but also highlighting the sensitivity of the remaining issues.

This parallel engagement suggests the negotiations are being coordinated across multiple channels, rather than handled in isolation with Kyiv alone.
